Clackmannanshire
Unitary authority in central Scotland, bordering the north side of
the Firth of Forth. A former county (until 1974), it was a district
of Central region (1975-96)

Towns:
Alloa (administrative headquarters), Tillicoultry
Physical:
Compact geographical area comprising the extensive flat flood plain
of the river Devon, which rises dramatically at the Ochil Hills
to Ben Cleuch (721 m/ 2,365 ft)
Industries:
Brewing, distilling, manufacture of bottles and knitwear
Agriculture:
Intensive on flood plain of Forth; less intensive on Ochil Hills
Population:
(1995) 48,800.
Economy
This is based largely on small enterprises in a mixed economy.
Environment
There are ten Sites of Special Scientific Interest and one country
park.
