History:
Key part in the industrial history of Scotland as a port and a heavy
engineering centre.
Economy
It is predominantly a de- industrializing urban area with more affluent
villages on the southern side of the area and low-quality agricultural
land away from the coastal plain. Regeneration has been led by
high technology.
Environment
There are four Sites of Special Scientific Interest and one regional
park.
Administrative History
Prior to 1975, the area was part of Renfrewshire.
