Country in central Asia, bounded N by Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan, E by China, and S by Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Government

The 1994 constitution provides for a directly elected executive president and a 181-member legislature, the Supreme Assembly, to which deputies are elected by a majority system, with a second ballot `run-off´ race in contests in which there is no clear first-round majority. Both serve four-year terms. The president works with a cabinet headed by a prime minister.
